Overview
Investigations is one of the seven domains of CPP certification and integral to the work of a Professional Certified Investigator (PCI).
On April 26, 2023 – from 18h00-20h00pm (Eastern time) the Ottawa Chapter will be hosting a professional development workshop on investigation with a panel discussion followed by a “Ask the experts session”.
This event will include a networking and social before and after the presentation. We have two extraordinary panellists that will discuss their experience and advice with investigations in security. The discussion will be structured as a series of presentations, followed by questions and answer session with a moderator. Food will be served.

Attendance to this event is eligible for CPE credits.

David Black, CPP
Sr. Investigator and Security Consultant at Hunt Investigation
Over 32 years of experience in law enforcement, workplace investigations, threat risk assessment, workplace violence and theft/fraud investigations.
David recently travelled three times to Ukraine to help refugees and he volunteered on a farm that was short handed due to the war.
CPP since 1996, David is a mentor, coach, lecturer and instructor with the ASIS Ottawa community.

Allan T. Burns, PCI, CMM III

Allan T. Burns is the owner of ATB Consulting providing independent security consulting and investigation services following an extensive and diverse career in law enforcement and security both as a senior officer with the Ottawa Police Service and as Director of University Safety at Carleton University in Ottawa.
Allan is board certified as a Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) by ASIS International and designated as a Certified Municipal Manager III, Security Executive (CMM III) by the Ontario Municipal Management Institute (OMMI). He is also the recipient of the Governor General’s Police Exemplary Service Medal with Bar.
Allan is a licensed private investigator and holds a Private Investigator Agency Licence for the Province of Ontario.
Allan’s career with the Ottawa Police Service spanned 34 years. His experience is wide-ranging having held leadership positions in a number of divisions including Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, Forensic Identification, Communications, and Security Management.
Allan is a member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, the Canadian Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (CATAP), the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS International), the Council of Professional Investigators of Ontario (CPIO), and is currently vice-president of the National Capital Area Crime Stoppers and a secretary of the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers. He previously held the position of vice-president of the Ontario Association of College and University Security Administrators (OACUSA) and was a member of the board of governors and past chair of the National Law Enforcement in Occupational Safety and Health Association.
